An experienced Wing Chun practitioner will overcome force with, redirection, and positioning rather than using brute force or meeting it head on.

History of Wing Chun

Around 350 years ago a nun named Ng Mui who escaped the Shaolin Temple prior to its destruction. When she realized what she had been practicing a style of Kung Fu invented by men for men and did not account for the female form. Kung Fu required a great deal of physical strength and reach. As a woman she had little physical advantage. She began to work on a more efficient fighting style. She set out to create a form of self-defense that transcended size, weight and gender. Ng Mui taught this style to a young woman that was being pressured to marry a bandit warlord. The new style combined the best techniques to form more economic and simple style that allowed for the practitioner to use natural movements that required little force to be efficient and effective. The new style included a lower stance and resourceful techniques. Lastly, it factored in sensitivity for better flow and timing. The young woman defeated the warlord and drove him off. A new system was born and adopted its name from Ng Mui’s fist student of the art, Yim Wing Chun.
